Cattle breeders from all over Ireland have been attending the show for decades. The show provides an excellent opportunity for breeders to showcase their stock as well as the opportunity to win very attractive prizes across all classes. Pedigree as well as commercial exhibitors provide a great spectacle as they parade their stock around the show rings.
County Wicklow is one of the few counties in Ireland that boasts it very own breed, the Wicklow Cheviot. Breeders of a wide range of breeds attend the show each year competing across a range of classes including pedigree and commercial.
The Tinahely show was first founded on the area’s rich tradition in horse breeding. Today the horse and pony sections boast a huge entry, from showing to jumping, and include driving and pony games classes. These magnificent creatures are a real thrill to watch with the Red Mills All Ireland 2-year-old one of the highlights of the show.
Tinahely Show boasts one of the country’s best-ever Vintage displays. Enthusiasts from near and far bring their cars, tractors, engines, farm machinery and industrial machinery to mention just a few.
One of the highlights of the Vintage display is a live threshing demonstration which takes place mid-afternoon. Young and old alike revel in the wonder of these classics from yesteryear, so make sure you find some time for this incredible display.
The Craft Village Marquee proudly promotes quality, handcrafted, Irish-made products. All the exhibits in the Craft Village feature beautifully designed and superbly crafted pieces. There will be an incredible array of products for sale such as jewellery, ceramics, hard-carved walking canes, wood-turned items, baskets, knitwear, quilts, macrame, soft toys, hand-painted silks, baby accessories, fabric handbags and purses, household decorations, flowerpots, cushions, leather items, children’s books, luxury soaps and skin care products, herbal eye pillows, original art, greeting cards, candles, glassware, and much, much more.
A warm welcome is extended to all the exhibitors at this year’s Craft Village and we wish them an enjoyable and successful day at the Tinahely Show. Judges will choose the ‘Best of Craft Village’ exhibits and awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners.
The Food From Our Farms exhibition is proud to display a huge variety of home-grown/produced best-quality foods at this year's Tinahely Show. The selection encompasses tastes for all occasions in many varieties. Freshly baked bread and cakes in traditional and gluten-free form, topped with eggs, sausages, cheese, or jellies, jams, relishes, and marmalades accompanied by fresh fruit drinks make an excellent start to the day.
As lunchtime approaches, the waft of a succulent barbeque accompanied by organic vegetables, with chocolate and ice cream and fresh fruit to follow sets the scene. Butchers' home-produced fresh meat marinated with herbs, oils, and sauces with a hint of honey leaves a taste to remember and chase.
The display of bees hard at work completes a busy day.
Following the huge success of the Best of Wicklow Exhibition at our 2023 show we are thrilled that it’s returning to our 2024 show. Made possible by the generous support of Wicklow County Council it is an exciting collaborative initiative that brings together the best that Wicklow has to offer in culture, food and drink producers, tourism, enterprise, and public services under one roof.
A major feature of this exhibition is the feature display and live cookery demonstrations run by Wicklow Naturally, the official food and drink network which champions the wonderful food and drink producers in The Garden of Ireland.
