The objectives of the Irish Pony Club are to encourage young people to learn to enjoy all kinds of sports connected with horse riding, to provide instruction in riding and horsemanship and to instil in its members’ the proper care of their animals. It also promotes the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty, thereby cultivating strength of character and self-discipline.

Mounted Games is one of the disciplines of the Pony Club. It is a team competition requiring courage, determination and all-round riding ability on the part of the team members, and the careful and systematic training of their ponies.

During the summer month’s competitions are held at various locations and shows throughout the country at Under 10, Junior and Senior level.
Each team consists of five members who take part in a variety of games where speed, accuracy and breath-taking excitement are the norm. The games are fun to watch and attract large crowds at shows and are one of the top attractions at Tinahely Show.
